Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral Palsy—the Causes, the Costs

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a general term that refers to a condition where brain damage results in loss of motor control. A family may not notice a child's disability until the child is months or years old. The cause of cerebral palsy can be obstetric negligence. If you suspect your child's lack of motor control results from medical malpractice or other negligence, you deserve to know the truth.

If you would like to speak with a member of our medical team, or with a personal injury lawyer with extensive experience in child injuries, please contact our Los Angeles office to arrange a free medical/legal consultation. We may send your child to a medical expert for an evaluation. Whether we determine you have a case or not, we will share all information we find with you, and you owe us nothing unless we recover damages on your behalf.

Cerebral palsy can result from medical malpractice in cases such as the following:

  • A maternal infection, including Group B Strep (GBS), during the prenatal period or another complication of pregnancy that was not treated properly
  • An obstetric accident during childbirth resulting in brain injury from birth trauma or lack of oxygen to the brain (brain hypoxia)
  • Severe jaundice or other mismanaged neonatal care

Verdicts and Settlements: $10 Million to our client with cerebral palsy

If your child is living with cerebral palsy, you need to determine whether there are sources to provide compensation that will allow you to care for your child properly. We have recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for clients; money that allowed children to have the best of care, wheelchair accessible housing, therapy, and college tuition. Our attorneys will work with economic and life care experts to determine the full extent of your loss. For more information on CP, see our cerebral palsy website.
